Expanding Horizons

ITALY TOUR, 2024: The Education Legacy Fund partnered for a second time with Custer County Schools educator Heather Ramer and Education First for 24 students to travel to Italy for nine days in June of 2024. ELF was incredibly proud to be a key sponsor of this overseas trip as well as the 2022 England Trip. ELF also held a free Italy 2024 Kickoff Celebration at All Aboard Westcliffe where travelers and their families were treated to pizza, salad and lemon ricotta cookies while they enjoyed a short ELF presentation. Student speakers also shared their excitement for the 2024 adventure. Each student also got a free T-shirt to commemorate their trip.

We were thrilled to once again identify a program that fits the Education Legacy Fund mission: Support Breakthrough Educational Initiatives in Custer County. As always, we very much appreciate the support of the community and welcome any questions, suggestions and additional support for lifelong learning initiatives.

CAMP JACKSON TRIP, ANNUALLY: Each year the Education Legacy Fund sends the fifth grade students at Custer County School on an overnight trip to YMCA Camp Jackson in the San Isabel National Forest.  This outdoor education trip is a incredible learning tool for the fifth grade students!  The students learn many valuable life skills such as working as a team, communication, empathy, cooperation and leadership skills. The fifth graders always look forward to this trip!

PUEBLO WEISBROD AIRCRAFT MUSEUM TRIP, APRIL 2024: Gifted and Talented students explored one of Colorado’s largest aircraft collections. During World War II, Pueblo Army Air Base was one of the major bomber training fields for pilots and crews. The Museum pays tribute to those who served on the base during that time and the Pueblo community that supported it.

ENGLAND TOUR, 2022: The Education Legacy Fund partnered with an amazing local Custer County Schools teacher Heather Ramer. Heather (English Literature) approached us to propose an ELF sponsorship of 18 local Custer County high school students to take an educational tour of England in the spring of 2022 through an organization called Education First. Several ELF board members had the pleasure of personally handing a check for $36,000 to Heather and the students:
